The Perak Branch has established a Research Centre, named Centre for Hospitality and Tourism Development in March 2021. The objectives of the Research Centre are to:

1. Develop research programmes in areas of hotel and food system organisation, tourism destination development, MICE (meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions), sustainable tourism & hospitality, cultural aspects of tourism and food, as well as culinary innovation.

2.  Encourage multidisciplinary research and collaborative processes. Given that hospitality and tourism entails diverse and cumulative knowledge from different fields, research activities will be more inclusive to encourage participation from lecturers of different departments. These areas include (but not limited to): tourism development, consumer behaviour, technology use in hospitality, halal studies, human resources, sociology, corporate communication, environmental impact studies, psychology, economics, and marketing. 

3. Nurture young researchers through collaboration in projects from different fields, through continuous sharing of skills and experiences in order to promote excellence in knowledge creation.

4. Collaborate with other educational, governmental, and entities in the industry to promote knowledge transfer and capacity building. This can create opportunities for further partnerships and funding.
