Education Field Trip to Double Tree Resort Hilton, Penang

The students (REV, RHC & RGP) and lecturers from TAR UMT Perak Branch embarked on an educational field trip to Double Tree Resort by Hilton Penang. Throughout the tour, the General Manager and all Heads of Departments offered insights into the resort's operations and delivered an engaging career talk, followed by an interactive Q&A session.  Students enjoyed a guided tour and were treated to refreshments. Certificates of participation were then awarded to the students, and a photo session ensued. Thank you DoubleTree Resort by Hilton Penang for the top-notch hospitality!

Navigating the Future of Education with ChatGPT

Dr. Chieng Hock Hung, Assistant Professor from the Department of Computing and Information Technology, conducted a workshop titled "Navigating the Future of Education with ChatGPT" for educators at Tenby Schools Ipoh on 19 April 2024. The workshop delved into the transformative role of artificial intelligence in education. By engaging with ChatGPT's capabilities, teachers gained insights into innovative approaches to enhance teaching methodologies.

Generative AI: Business Buddy or Digital Nemesis?

We have entered an era of widespread horizontal development in artificial intelligence (AI) technology. AI has become integrated into virtually all aspects of our lives and across various industries. To help students gain a comprehensive understanding of the impact that Generative AI will have on individuals and businesses, we invited Dr. Lau Cher Han to deliver an insightful industrial talk titled 'Generative AI: Business Buddy or Digital Nemesis?' 


Dr. Lau Cher Han, CEO of LEAD and founder of CoronaTracker, highlighted during his talk how AI can enhance productivity and inform better decision-making. He shared examples of businesses that have successfully integrated these technologies and discussed job roles that could potentially be replaced by AI. He also provided guidance on how to navigate well in this era of Generative AI.


The Q&A session was particularly engaging, with questions ranging from ethical considerations to leveraging AI in startups. Dr. Lau’s responses showcased his deep understanding and practical experience. As the session concluded, the university expressed appreciation for Dr. Lau's valuable insights and presented him with a token of appreciation.

Education field trip to Prince of Songkhla University, Thailand

On 20 April 2024, TAR UMT Perak Branch students (REV, RHC & RGP) and lecturers had a getaway to Pattani, Thailand for an education field trip. This trip was organized by the Programme Leader, Mr Zazrul Afiq Zazlan. Besides their indulgence of the glorious food and culture, they managed to visit the Galyani Vadhana Institute of Cultural Studies at Prince of Songkhla University, Pattani Campus. It was a wonderful experience for students to appreciate the Thai culture through batik workshop activities, we learned to print and paint the Thailand Batik. The students and lecturers were given the opportunity to visit the 3D Art Museum and Historical Museum to add our knowledge about the existence of Pattani as part of the Langkasuka kingdom located in the Malay Peninsula. A heartful thanks to Dr. Pornpawee Phumkerd, Director of Prince of Songkhla University and Dr. Nipatimah Hayeehama, Head of Research Prince of Songkhla University for the fantastic hospitality and also the lecturers for their gracious time and assistance.

Service Learning 2024

Bachelor of Business (Honours) Accounting and Finance (RAF) and Bachelor of Business (Honours) Business Administration (RBU), (Year 2 Semester 2) organized community service activities as a part of their MPU-3202 Service-Learning coursework requirement. The service-learning main objective is to allow students to contribute to the community by applying knowledge and skills gained in the classroom. The community projects have been carried out as follows:

Free Market Day

Year 1 Semester 2 students from Diploma in Communication and Media Studies, Diploma in Hotel Management Diploma in Event Management organised a volunteerism project which is Free Market Day as a part of their MPU-2202 Civic Consciousness and Volunteerism coursework requirement. The Free-Market Day project was to help people in needs (without involving cash). The main aim of this project is to collect donation items such as groceries, stationery, books/magazines/novels, gadgets, household items, sport equipment, etc. All the donated items donated to TAR UMT staff and students.
