Stories in the Spotlight: TAR UMT Perak Students Recognised at the 2026 World Youth Writing Competition

Three students from the Bachelor of Communication Studies (Honours) programme at TAR UMT Perak were recognised in the 2026 World Youth Writing Competition, organised by the World Youth Talent Education Association (WYTEA). The results were announced on 30 September 2026.

Adam Phang Jun Wei and Wyann Khoo Wei Yen were each named Champion, while Lee Jing Hen was named Runner-up.

Adam Phang Jun Wei, “What We Never Said” (Champion)

For three best friends, a single misunderstanding turns a confrontation into a final goodbye.

Wyann Khoo Wei Yen, “A Shattered Tune” (Champion)

Between two aspiring musicians, brutal honesty is met with betrayal, and revenge strikes a bitter chord.

Lee Jing Hen, “Elysia” (Runner-up)

In the fantasy realm of Elysia, a son’s dream of his own path collides with his father’s idea of duty.

Beyond the awards, the competition gave these budding writers an international platform to share their work, receive feedback and grow in confidence.

The students were mentored by Puan Tan Soon Chin, whose guidance supported them from first draft to final submission.

TAR UMT Perak congratulates Adam, Wyann and Jing Hen on their achievements and wishes them every success as they continue to develop their voices as writers.
