On 06 April 2026, students at SMK Idris Shah experienced an engaging introduction to the world of accounting, from financial recording and analysis to its real impact in everyday life and business.
The session also opened students’ eyes to the journey of becoming a chartered accountant, including professional accounting bodies and the wide range of career opportunities in the field.
The highlight of the day was the financial planning game, where students stepped into real-life decision-making roles, managing budgets, controlling spending and making smart financial choices. The energy in the room was high as students connected theory with real-world application.
Overall, the programme sparked strong interest in financial literacy and showed that it’s never too early to start building smart money habits.
IMI (Malaysia) representatives delivered an engaging talk titled “Explore Study Opportunities in IMI Switzerland,” led by Ms. Kitty Lee and Mr. Suresh Oliver. The session provided valuable insights into IMI’s academic programmes, campus life and student experience in Switzerland’s renowned hospitality education landscape.
Students learned about the blend of academic theory and practical training, alongside strong industry exposure that prepares graduates for global careers. A video presentation further showcased the campus facilities, hands-on learning environment and multicultural student life at IMI Switzerland.
With approximately 106 students in attendance, the session sparked strong interest and active engagement through direct interaction with the speakers.
Overall, the talk was both inspiring and informative, encouraging students to explore international education opportunities and broaden their academic and career pathways.
On 9 April, 41 students and staff participated in a community service programme at the Sungkai Wildlife Conservation Centre. Participants were briefed on the importance of wildlife conservation and the role of conservation centres.
They then carried out a clean-up around the centre, contributing to a safer and cleaner environment. The programme helped raise awareness and encouraged environmental responsibility among participants
09 April 2026, As part of the continuous effort to provide experiential learning, students from AJHM2234 Restaurant Management, DHT2S1G1 (B) Thursday Class, under the supervision of Ms. Noor Hana Bt Mat Daim, successfully organized a themed restaurant event titled “Seaside Breeze Café.”
The group presented a calm and relaxing beach-inspired dining concept, creating a serene atmosphere that reflected the beauty of the seaside. Their uniqueness was evident in the thoughtful use of soft ocean colours, well-placed decorations, and creative background arrangements, which together formed a visually pleasing and immersive dining environment.
Students demonstrated strong commitment and teamwork in managing the full restaurant operation, including theme conceptualisation, decoration setup, food preparation, and service execution. The overall ambience successfully provided guests with a comfortable and enjoyable dining experience.
The event served as a valuable platform for students to apply their practical knowledge in a real restaurant setting while showcasing creativity, coordination, and attention to detail.
10 April 2026, TAR UMT Perak - Continuing the themed restaurant series, students from AJHM2234 Restaurant Management, DHT2S1G1 (A) Friday Class, under the supervision of Ms. Noor Hana Bt Mat Daim, successfully presented “Aloha Paradise Restaurant.”
The group delivered a vibrant and energetic Hawaiian dining experience, characterised by bold colours, tropical decorations, and a lively atmosphere. Their uniqueness was reflected in the creative use of floral elements, ceiling decorations, and coordinated table settings, which enhanced the overall visual impact and thematic consistency.
The food served was well-executed, with good presentation and flavour, reflecting the students’ strong culinary skills. The team also demonstrated confidence and professionalism in delivering a welcoming and engaging dining experience.
Overall, the event highlighted the students’ creativity, teamwork, and dedication, while providing meaningful hands-on experience aligned with industry practices. The Aloha Paradise Restaurant successfully created a memorable and enjoyable experience for all guests.
13 to 16 April 2026, Overall, 867 students participated in various workshops and talks and about 10,000 soft skills points were collected. We hope this festival give you good exposure and confidence moving forward and thank you again for the support, and see you all in the next programme.
15 April 2026, TAR UMT Perak - AI for Smart Learning: Enhancing Academic Success with Artificial Intelligence
A highly insightful session on “AI for Smart Learning: Enhancing Academic Success with Artificial Intelligence” was delivered by Ts. Dr. Mathivannan Jeganathan to our undergraduate students
The session explored how AI can transform the learning experience by supporting students in understanding course concepts, summarising study materials, preparing assignments, improving academic writing, conducting research, and boosting overall study productivity
Students also enjoyed hands-on exposure through live demonstrations of powerful AI tools such as ChatGPT, Perplexity AI, Canva AI, and Grammarly
Beyond the technical skills, the session highlighted the importance of responsible and ethical use of AI, equipping students with valuable insights to enhance learning efficiency and stay future-ready in the digital era.

17 April 2026, TAR UMT Perak - Industrial Talk - Adaptive Software Engineering
Ts. Dr. Sharifah is External Examiner for Bachelor of Information Technology (Honours) in Software Systems Development. She provided an industrial talk to DCIT students.
Students learned overall concepts and knowledge in software engineering perspective including tools used and apps.
17 - 19 April 2026, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Penang - Varsity Track & Field SIRI 1 2026
From 38 IPTA and IPTS institutions, VARSITY TRACK & FIELD SIRI 1 2026 showcased strong and competitive performances. The TAR UMT team finished 14th overall among the 38 participating institutions.
The team delivered a commendable performance, securing two silver medals in:
Men’s Triple Jump (Lompat Kijang)
Men’s Long Jump (Lompat Jauh)
In the women’s 5000m, Sai Hwa Leng from TAR UMT Perak Branch made a significant improvement, lowering her personal best from 27:25 to 25:26.
Meanwhile, Wong Jun Wei also achieved a new personal best of 20:58 in the 5000m.

18 April 2026, TAR UMT Perak - Hospitality Day 2026: A Taste of the Industry
The Department of Social Science and Hospitality (DSSH), Perak Branch of TAR UMT, hosted Hospitality Day 2026, welcoming 54 students from Girls and Boys Brigade from Wesley Methodist Church Kampar, Sekolah Menengah Methodist (ACS) Kampar and Pei Yuan High School for an exciting, hands-on experience.
From an inspiring career talk to interactive event planning activities, students explored the dynamic world of hospitality in a fun and engaging way. The highlight of the day was the practical sessions, where participants experienced basic restaurant service, hot snack preparation, and a live fruit carving demonstration led by DSSH lecturers.
The event also created a vibrant platform for interaction with TAR UMT students, making the experience both meaningful and memorable.
Hospitality Day 2026 sparked curiosity, built skills, and inspired future pathways in the hospitality industry.
18-19 April 2026, The Varsity Swimming Championship 2026 brought together top university athletes from various IPTA and IPTS institutions across Malaysia. The competition was highly competitive, with strong performances demonstrated in both men’s and women’s events.
TAR UMT emerged as the overall champion, achieving an outstanding total of 30 medals (14 Gold, 9 Silver, 7 Bronze), showcasing the team’s strength and consistency across events.
In the individual events, Eddie Law Li Hui from TAR UMT Perak Branch qualified for the finals in both the 50m Backstroke and 50m Breaststroke, finishing among the top 6 in both categories — a commendable achievement at this level of competition.
