On 06 April 2026, students at SMK Idris Shah experienced an engaging introduction to the world of accounting, from financial recording and analysis to its real impact in everyday life and business.
The session also opened students’ eyes to the journey of becoming a chartered accountant, including professional accounting bodies and the wide range of career opportunities in the field.
The highlight of the day was the financial planning game, where students stepped into real-life decision-making roles, managing budgets, controlling spending and making smart financial choices. The energy in the room was high as students connected theory with real-world application.
Overall, the programme sparked strong interest in financial literacy and showed that it’s never too early to start building smart money habits.
IMI (Malaysia) representatives delivered an engaging talk titled “Explore Study Opportunities in IMI Switzerland,” led by Ms. Kitty Lee and Mr. Suresh Oliver. The session provided valuable insights into IMI’s academic programmes, campus life and student experience in Switzerland’s renowned hospitality education landscape.
Students learned about the blend of academic theory and practical training, alongside strong industry exposure that prepares graduates for global careers. A video presentation further showcased the campus facilities, hands-on learning environment and multicultural student life at IMI Switzerland.
With approximately 106 students in attendance, the session sparked strong interest and active engagement through direct interaction with the speakers.
Overall, the talk was both inspiring and informative, encouraging students to explore international education opportunities and broaden their academic and career pathways.
On 9 April 2026, A meaningful day of service and environmental awareness! 41 students and staff took part in a community programme at the Sungkai Wildlife Conservation Centre, focusing on wildlife conservation 🐾 and environmental responsibility.
Participants received a briefing on the importance of conservation efforts and the role of wildlife centres in protecting biodiversity.
They then carried out a clean-up activity around the centre, helping to maintain a cleaner and safer environment for both wildlife and visitors.
Overall, the programme raised awareness of conservation issues and encouraged a stronger sense of responsibility towards the environment.
As part of experiential learning, students from AJHM2234 Restaurant Management, DHT2S1G1 (B) Thursday Class, under the supervision of Ms. Noor Hana Bt Mat Daim, successfully organised a themed restaurant event titled “Seaside Breeze Café.”
The group presented a calm, beach-inspired dining concept, creating a serene ambience through soft ocean colours, creative décor and well-coordinated background elements that enhanced the overall dining experience.
Students demonstrated strong teamwork and commitment in managing the full operation, from theme conceptualisation and setup to food preparation and service delivery.
Overall, the event provided a valuable platform to apply practical skills in a real restaurant setting while showcasing creativity, coordination and attention to detail.
10 April 2026, TAR UMT Perak - As part of the themed restaurant series, students from AJHM2234 Restaurant Management, DHT2S1G1 (A) Friday Class, under the supervision of Ms. Noor Hana Bt Mat Daim, successfully presented “Aloha Paradise Restaurant.”
The group delivered a vibrant Hawaiian dining experience filled with bold colours, tropical décor and a lively island-inspired atmosphere. Creative use of floral arrangements, ceiling décor and coordinated table settings enhanced the overall theme and visual impact.
The food was well-executed with strong presentation and flavour, reflecting solid culinary skills. The team also demonstrated confidence and professionalism in delivering a warm and engaging service experience.
Overall, the event showcased students’ creativity, teamwork and commitment, while providing valuable hands-on industry exposure. Aloha Paradise Restaurant successfully created a memorable dining experience for all guests.
On 13 to 16 April 2026, The Soft Skills Festival 2026 brought together an impressive 867 students, who actively participated in a series of workshops and talks designed to enhance essential soft skills.
Throughout the four-day programme, students engaged enthusiastically and collectively accumulated approximately 10,000 soft skills points, reflecting strong participation and commitment.
The festival provided valuable exposure, boosted confidence and encouraged personal development among students as they prepared for future academic and career journeys.

15 April 2026, TAR UMT Perak – AI for Smart Learning: Enhancing Academic Success with Artificial Intelligence
A highly engaging session titled “AI for Smart Learning: Enhancing Academic Success with Artificial Intelligence” was delivered by Ts. Dr. Mathivannan Jeganathan for undergraduate students at TAR UMT Perak.
The talk explored how AI is reshaping the way students learn, supporting understanding of complex concepts, summarising study materials, enhancing academic writing, streamlining research and improving overall study efficiency and productivity.
Students were also given hands-on exposure through live demonstrations of tools such as ChatGPT, Perplexity AI, Canva AI and Grammarly, making the session practical, interactive and directly applicable to their studies.
Beyond skills and tools, the session strongly emphasised responsible and ethical AI use, equipping students with the awareness to leverage technology wisely while staying academically grounded and future-ready in the digital era.
We are delighted to renew our Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with DoubleTree Resort by Hilton Penang, strengthening a valued partnership that continues to create impactful collaborations, enriching opportunities and meaningful industry exposure for our students.
As part of the visit, the team also delivered an engaging and insightful talk, sharing practical knowledge and real-world perspectives from the hospitality industry to inspire students.
This renewed partnership marks another step forward in strengthening industry-academia ties and creating more exciting learning experiences ahead.
17 April 2026, TAR UMT Perak – Industrial Talk: Adaptive Software Engineering
An industrial talk on Adaptive Software Engineering was delivered by Ts. Dr. Sharifah, External Examiner for the Bachelor of Information Technology (Honours) in Software Systems Development, for DCIT students at TAR UMT Perak.
The session introduced key software engineering concepts from an industry perspective, including commonly used tools, development practices and applications in real-world environments.
Students gained a clearer understanding of how software engineering is applied in practice, bridging academic knowledge with industry expectations.
17 - 19 April 2026, The Varsity Swimming Championship 2026 brought together top university athletes from various IPTA and IPTS institutions across Malaysia in a highly competitive sporting event featuring strong performances across all categories.
TAR UMT emerged as the overall champion, achieving an outstanding total of 30 medals (14 Gold, 9 Silver, 7 Bronze), reflecting the team’s strength, consistency and excellence throughout the competition.
In the individual events, Eddie Law Li Hui from TAR UMT Perak Branch qualified for the finals in both the 50m Backstroke and 50m Breaststroke, finishing among the top 6 in both events, an admirable achievement at this level of competition.
Overall, the championship highlighted the dedication and determination of all athletes. Congratulations to everyone for their performances! Keep training, keep improving and continue pushing beyond your limits.

18 April 2026, TAR UMT Perak – Hospitality Day 2026: A Taste of the Industry
The Department of Social Science and Hospitality (DSSH) successfully hosted Hospitality Day 2026, welcoming 54 students from Girls and Boys Brigade, Wesley Methodist Church Kampar, Sekolah Menengah Methodist (ACS) Kampar and Pei Yuan High School for an engaging, hands-on experience.
The programme featured an inspiring career talk and interactive event planning activities, introducing students to the dynamic world of hospitality in a fun and practical way.
The highlight of the day was the experiential sessions, where participants tried basic restaurant service, hot snack preparation and witnessed a live fruit carving demonstration led by DSSH lecturers.
The event also fostered meaningful interaction with TAR UMT students, creating a vibrant and memorable learning experience. Overall, Hospitality Day 2026 sparked curiosity, built foundational skills and inspired future pathways in the hospitality industry.

21 April 2026, The Department of Communication, Perak Branch, successfully hosted Cinematic Showcase 3.0, bringing together students, lecturers, and industry professionals in a vibrant celebration of creativity, storytelling, and technical excellence.
Held at FDK 1, the showcase featured 34 students from the Diploma in Communication and Media Studies (DCD), across Year 1 and Year 2. The projects were developed under the courses Introduction to Communication and Media Studies and Basic Video Production, guided by Ms. Zaharatul Mardhiah Binti Azizul and Mr. Mohamad Yusob Bin Ismail.
A total of five outstanding video projects were presented and evaluated by a panel of judges from both academia and industry, including Dr. Afeez Nawfal (UPSI) and Mr. Balachandran Tanabalan (Astro). Their insights provided valuable real-world perspectives for our students. Projects were assessed based on creativity, originality, technical quality, innovation, and impact. The event concluded with an award ceremony recognising exceptional student achievements.
Cinematic Showcase 3.0 remains a platform where young talents shine, ideas come to life, and future media professionals are shaped.
22 April 2026, The RHCY1S3 students, under the guidance of Ms. Noor Hana, successfully organized an intimate English High Tea on 22nd April 2026 at The Nest Restaurant, TAR UMT Perak Branch, welcoming 30 guests including ex-staff and long-time friends.
With only three students and one lecturer, the team managed the full operation from preparation to service. The event was carefully prepared over three days—restaurant setup, kitchen preparation, and final execution—demonstrating strong teamwork and commitment.
Guests enjoyed a delightful high tea menu featuring a mix of Western and local favourites, including Earl Grey tea, Vermicelli Tomyam Consommé, assorted canapés, mini main courses, and desserts such as banana cake, kuih talam, and mini pancakes. The food was well received, described as fresh, enjoyable, and suitable for a relaxing afternoon gathering.
The event successfully created a warm and welcoming atmosphere, reflecting the theme of friendship and shared memories. Despite limited manpower, the students delivered a smooth service experience while gaining valuable hands-on exposure to real hospitality operations.
Ng Xin Lui, a student from Diploma in Communication and Media Studies (Year 2 Semester 2) at Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology Perak Branch, participated in the 34th MAKAF National Karate Championship 2026 (U14, Cadet, Junior & U21 Pra Sukma) held from 30 April 2026 until 3 May 2026 at Dewan Konvensyen Bukit Raja, Selangor.
She competed in the U21 Female Individual Kata category and successfully qualified for the quarter final round. Throughout the competition, she displayed good discipline, confidence, and strong technical performance. Her achievement reflects her dedication and commitment in representing the team at the national level.
