MASISWA Networking Games 2024

28 November – 1 December 2024, Pulau Pinang - MASISWA Networking Games 2024

Organized by Majlis Sukan IPTS Malaysia (MASISWA) under the Ministry of Higher Education, this bi-annual event brought together IPTS staff nationwide to celebrate sportsmanship and camaraderie.

The competition featured 9 exciting sports: Netball, Futsal, Volleyball, Badminton, Ping Pong, Sepak Takraw, Petanque, Tenpin Bowling, and Chess. Our team proudly participated in Tenpin Bowling and Badminton, joining 36 IPTS institutions for a remarkable experience of teamwork and healthy competition.

The Story of TARCIANS

We just wrapped up an amazing evening at the MS Cinema, enjoying the private screening of "The Story of TARCIANS"!  The movie beautifully captured the legacy, determination, and heart that built Tunku Abdul Rahman College and shaped generations of TARcians.

The Perfect Family Christmas Butter Cookies

On 5 December 2024, ten students from the Diploma in Hotel Management program participated in the Christmas Cookies Baking project at Copthorne Hotel. They stayed at the hotel overnight. This Corporate Social Responsibility Christmas initiative is a collaboration between TAR UMT and Copthorne Hotel Cameron Highlands, aimed at raising funds for the Cleft Lip & Palate Association of Malaysia (CLAPAM) and the TAR UMT Loan Fund.

Through interactive activities such as Look, Tell, Draw, Think Out of the Box, Word Search, and Odd Numbers, we aimed to provide an enriching experience to help students explore leadership qualities and foster effective teamwork.

Time Management Workshop

12 December 2024, TAR UMT Perak - Time Management Workshop 


Diploma and degree students came together for a productive time management workshop aimed at boosting their academic success and overall efficiency. The session covered key techniques like goal setting, prioritization, and practical tools such as the Eisenhower Matrix.


Participants actively engaged in hands-on activities, applying these methods to real-life scenarios, and gaining a deeper understanding of effective time management principles. The workshop concluded with insightful discussions on tackling procrastination and distractions, fostering collaboration and peer support among students from diverse programs.

Educational Trip & CSR Program in Penang National Park

Our Bachelor Degree of Tourism Management (Event Management) students are off on an exciting adventure to Penang National Park! With 16 students and 4 lecturers, we’re combining creativity, conservation, and hands-on learning. 


 Batik Painting: Kick off the journey by diving into Malaysia's art scene with a fun Batik painting session! 


Turtle Conservation: Help clean up the Turtle Conservation Centre at Pantai Kerachut and support marine life protection! 


Eco-Hike & Trail Clean-Up: Explore the beauty of Penang National Park while keeping the trails pristine for everyone!


This trip blends cultural appreciation, eco-tourism, and community impact—all while gaining valuable experience in the tourism industry!

Spreading Holiday Cheer: A Meaningful Collaboration

15 December 2024, Kampar - A Sweet Holiday Spirit: Students Bring Joy with Christmas Treats for a Cause


Wesley Methodist Church became the heart of holiday cheer, as six passionate students from RHC spread festive joy by selling scrumptious Christmas cookies. But the treats didn’t stop there—customers also had the chance to place orders for mouth-watering Christmas Yule Log cakes and traditional Christmas puddings, making it a true celebration of seasonal flavors.


This heartwarming project was a fantastic example of collaboration, uniting students from TAR UMT, Perak Branch, with the renowned Copthorne Hotel in Cameron Highlands. The initiative wasn’t just about indulging in delicious festive goodies—it also had a greater purpose.


All proceeds from the event were donated to two worthy causes: the Cleft Lip & Palate Association of Malaysia (CLAPAM) and the TAR UMT Loan Fund. This charitable effort not only filled the air with the sweet scent of holiday treats but also made a tangible difference in the lives of those in need.


Through their hard work and dedication, the students exemplified the true meaning of the season—coming together to make a positive impact. It was a day filled with joy, generosity, and a reminder of the power of giving back to the community.

Year 2 Semester 1 and Year 2 Semester 2 Bachelor of Business (Honours) Accounting and Finance (RAF), Bachelor of Business (Honours) Business Administration (RBU), Bachelor of Communication Studies (Honours) (RCD), and Bachelor of Tourism Management (Honours) Event Management (REV) students organized a series of community service activities as part of their MPU-3202 Service-Learning coursework requirement. These projects contributed to students' academic development while benefiting the local community.

These engaging activities provided students with opportunities to apply their academic knowledge in real-world settings, benefiting local communities while fulfilling their course requirements. The projects ranged from workshops on business and accounting to specialized talks on event management, entrepreneurship, and public speaking.

17 December 2024, TAR UMT Perak - Fostering Education and Innovation through the FYP Showcase Event

The Department of Computing and Information Technology (DCIT) hosted the Final Year Project (FYP) Showcase Event for the course BACS3413 Project II involving Year 3 students from the Bachelor in Information Technology (Honours) (Software Systems Development) (RSD) program.

During the event, students presented their final year projects to invited industry professionals, providing a valuable opportunity to receive feedback for further enhancement. The showcase allowed students to demonstrate their ability to integrate the knowledge and techniques gained throughout their studies, while also offering a platform to commercialize high-quality projects through industry involvement.

At the conclusion of the event, three project groups were selected as winners, with the champion group receiving the prestigious “Industrial Award” at the upcoming convocation.

Our students from REV Y3S2, REV Y3S1, REV Y2S2, REV Y2S1, and DTM Y2S2 had an amazing opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of hospitality during their recent visit to Cosmo Hotel KL.


The tour gave students a firsthand look into the dynamic hotel operations, including the behind-the-scenes processes that make guest services seamless. This exclusive in-house tour provided invaluable hands-on experiences and practical knowledge that will undoubtedly influence their future careers in the hospitality industry.

A big thank you to SMK Kampar for hosting the Body Core Strength Exercises workshop! We had an incredible time working with around 100 students from Form 1 to Form 3. It was fantastic to see everyone engage in fun yet challenging exercises designed to strengthen their core muscles. We hope the session was valuable and that the students walked away with practical fitness knowledge.

We had the privilege of welcoming the distinguished delegates from the Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine. The visit was graced by the presence of:

. Prof. Dr. Hao Erwei, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology at Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine

. Prof. Dr. Hou Xiaotao, Director of the Guangxi University Engineering Research Centre for Recycling of Traditional Chinese Medicine Resources

. Prof. Dr. Li Liangbo, Researcher at the Faculty of Pharmacy


Also accompanying the delegation were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tan Hui Yin, Dean of Faculty of Applied Sciences, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tang Pei Ling, Programme Leader from the Main Campus.

The highlight of the visit was an engaging discussion on culinary medicine, an innovative field that merges the principles of food homology with the artistry of gastronomy. It was an enriching exchange of ideas, and we look forward to further collaborations with the esteemed delegates in the future.

Free-Market Day

20 December 2024, TAR UMT Perak - Free Market Day: A Heartfelt Volunteerism Project by Diploma Students


Year 1 Semester 1 and Year 1 Semester 2 students from the Diploma in Communication and Media Studies and Diploma in Culinary Arts organized a meaningful volunteerism project, Free Market Day, as part of their MPU-2202 Civic Consciousness and Volunteerism coursework requirement. The event took place at Block H (corridor) and contributed 50% to the students' coursework marks.


The initiative aimed to assist individuals in need without involving monetary transactions, offering a platform for TAR UMT staff and students to receive donated goods. A diverse range of items were collected and shared, including:


Groceries (rice, sugar, oil, flour, biscuits, coffee, tea, sardines, sauce, toothpaste, toothbrush, etc.)

Stationery

Books/Magazines/Novels

Household Items (table lamps, cloth hangers, pails, tumblers, etc.)

Sport Equipment (dumbbells, badminton rackets, etc.)


This community-driven event exemplified the students' commitment to giving back and promoting civic responsibility. It not only fulfilled their coursework requirements but also fostered a spirit of generosity, strengthening the sense of community at TAR UMT. The project provided a valuable opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in organizing charitable initiatives, while making a positive difference in the lives of those in need.

Industrial Talk: AI-Powered Storytelling - The Future of Media Content Creation

23 December 2024, TAR UMT Perak - FCCI recently hosted an engaging industrial talk on AI-powered storytelling, delivered by the esteemed Associate Professor Dr. Izzal Asnira Zolkepli. The session, attended by both students and staff, offered invaluable insights into the intersection of artificial intelligence and creative narrative. Following the talk, Dr. Izzal continued to share his expertise during the External Examiner Visitation. We are grateful for his contribution and look forward to more enriching sessions in the future. The “Campus Life: One Take, One Story”

The “Campus Life: One Take, One Story” photography competition and exhibition, organized by Year 2 students from the Event Management programme at TARUMT, was an inspiring showcase of student talent and creativity. Held on December 26, 2024, at the DSA Hall, this event captured the vibrancy of campus life through the lens of aspiring photographers. Featuring two categories—Camera and Phone—the competition encouraged originality and storytelling, offering a platform for students to express their unique perspectives.

The winners were announced in an exciting award ceremony. For the Camera category, Mah Yong You (C16) claimed first place, followed by Yap Wan Wan (C14) in second and How Soo Hoong (C06) in third. Consolation prizes went to Clark Lim Shen Jun (C17), Kuan Pei Lin (C01), Lim Ru Yan (C03), Ng Yun Ru (C12), and Wong Xiang Ting (C10). In the Phone category, Chai Jia Ming (P20) secured first place, with Chin Hui Ling (P39) in second and Ang Eng Sheng (P40) in third. Consolation prizes were awarded to Sing Steven (P12), Chai Gao Jin (P23), Lee Yuk Ying (P18), Ang Lee Wei (P34), and San Min Ze (P26).

The event’s success was bolstered by the support of generous sponsors, including H.T Telecommunication Sdn. Bhd., Hiruscar, XMZ Printing, and La Ma Bao, among others. The esteemed panel of judges, including Mr. Mohamad Yusob Bin Ismail, Mr. Stewart Sun, and Ms. Sarah Chan, brought their expertise to ensure fair evaluations and celebrated the participants’ creativity and hard work.

Beyond the competition, this event served as a valuable learning experience for the organizing students. It allowed them to develop skills in event planning, stakeholder management, and teamwork, providing a hands-on opportunity to translate classroom lessons into real-world execution.

The exhibition not only highlighted student creativity but also fostered a sense of community and collaboration on campus. It demonstrated how even a modest-scale event could have a significant impact, inspiring both participants and organizers to explore their potential further.

In summary, “Campus Life: One Take, One Story” was a successful blend of artistic expression and practical learning, leaving a lasting impression on all involved. The event underscored the importance of such initiatives in developing well-rounded students ready to tackle future challenges.
